Pizza: What Food Group?

Pizza, fajitas, lasagna &133; many foods don’t fit neatly into a single food group. Prepared with ingredients from several food groups, mixed foods count as partial servings from two or more food groups.

Pizza, topped with ground beef, cheese, tomato sauce and green peppers, is a good example. The crust counts toward the Grains Group and the toppings add partial servings to the Meat and Beans Group, the Dairy Group and the Vegetable Group.

For fajitas, chicken or beef (Meat and Beans Group) is stir-fried with peppers and onions (Vegetable Group) and served inside a soft tortilla (Grain Group).

Eating meals with portions from each food group adds variety to your diet. Eating a variety of foods is always a key to good health.
